Antonio Valencia is hoping to repay Jose Mourinho for the trust he’s put in him at Manchester United this season.
The Ecuadorian has kickstarted his career since Mourinho took over last summer, cementing his place at right-back by pushing Matteo Darmian out of his natural position.
He’s arguably been our most consistent performer this season and the Portuguese boss labelled him as the best right-back in the world of football earlier in the season following his impressive displays.
Speaking about Mourinho’s comments, Valencia is still set on improving his game.
“I only have words of thanks to Mourinho for those words,” he said.
“I don’t consider myself the best, I just want to work hard for the team but he’s given me the confidence to do that, not only me but the rest of the team.
“I hope to give some of that trust back to Mourinho by playing a good match against Celta Vigo.
“We are not the favourites for the trophy but we are Manchester United and that is the responsibility that we bear. We have to demonstrate who we are and show it against Celta.”
His contract was extended in January for another year and I’m so happy that he’s in such incredible form as he has such an unbelievable work ethic.
Valencia has endeared himself to the hearts of fans and hopes are he can continue his impressive performances as United have a massive task of getting back into the Champions League.
