Jose Mourinho will convince David de Gea to stay at Manchester United – report

Jose Mourinho will attempt to convince David de Gea to remain at Manchester United this summer amid speculation of a potential move to Real Madrid, according to reports.

The Spaniard was on the cusp of a move to the Bernabeu back in August 2015, only for the move to fall through during the dying moments of the transfer window.

Various reports have claimed that Zinedine Zidane, following a disappointing season from Keylor Navas, had reignited Madrid’s interest in the Spaniard.

And according to M.E.N‘s James Robson, Mourinho will try to convince the 26-year-old to stay at Old Trafford over the summer.

It is worth conceding, straight off the bat, that any De Gea replacement will be a downgrade, unless Mourinho can pull off the unlikely capture of Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak.

You can hardly blame the Spaniard for wanting to ascend to the next level. The fact of the matter is that, whichever way you spin it, the quality of La Liga’s top six dwarfs that of what the Premier League can offer, and working under Zidane for the European champions may be too good to refuse, especially as Man United’s Champions League prospects continue to hang in the balance.
