Tottenham Hotspur vs Man United: Paul Pogba not seen travelling with squad

by Sam Peoples

Paul Pogba and Antonio Valencia were not seen with the travelling Manchester United squad for Sunday’s game against Tottenham Hotspur.

Pogba’s father sadly passed away on Friday and Jose Mourinho may have given him some compassionate leave. The Frenchman was unlikely to start regardless. It means we could well see Scott McTominay come into midfield at Spurs.

Valencia being left behind for a rest is not a surprise either. It happened for the Arsenal game last weekend and now it looks like the same thing is happening again. Don’t expect to see much of Valencia in these last three Premier League games before the Europa League final.

Here is Man United’s travelling squad (via MEN): David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Joel Pereira, Matthew Olosunde, Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe, Eric Bailly, Matteo Darmian, Chris Smalling, Demetri Mitchell, Daley Blind, Ander Herrera, Scott McTominay, Jesse Lingard, Matty Willock, Michael Carrick, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford

The players who were on the bench against Celta Vigo on Thursday are all likely to start so the likes of Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata, Michael Carrick and Chris Smalling will probably come into the starting XI to give other players a rest.

United’s focus between now and 24 May is simply to avoid injuries and fatigue, so we’ll be making plenty of changes and seeing a lot of rotation. We’ll bring you the confirmed team news at 1500 GMT on Sunday an hour before kick-off as always.
