Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak following concerns that David de Gea will move to Real Madrid this summer, according to reports.

Jose Mourinho claimed after the 0-0 draw at Southampton that De Gea will next feature when the side begins their preseason preparations against LA Galaxy in California on July 15.

The Portuguese boss claimed he will do everything he can to keep hold of De Gea this summer, however, there are growing concerns he could push forward a move to the Bernabeu.

As a result of this, United have intensified their interest in Oblak, as they’ve increased their scouting trips to the Vicente Calderon to watch the 24-year-old in action.

Oblak has a €100 million escape clause in his Atletico contract and it’s a massive turn-off for most clubs, however, if De Gea does leave for Madrid, United could expect a expect a substantial fee for his signature.

It’s not the best scenario to be in, especially to have to pay €100 million for a goalkeeper that isn’t as good as De Gea, but the Spaniard can’t be forced to stay and if he does leave United, Mourinho will need a replacement in place.
