Rio Ferdinand insists Manchester United will miss Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s presence in Europa League final against Ajax in Stockholm.
Zlatan, a former Ajax player, would have clearly been able to have an impact on this game as he’s scored 28 goals across all competitions even though many believed he wouldn’t be able to adapt to the intensity of football in England.
However, he suffered knee ligament damage which he sustained during the Europa League quarter-final and could miss the start of the new season, or even longer as he is yet to sign a new deal at Old Trafford.
Speaking about Ibrahimovic, Rio claims it would have been brilliant to have him back in action.
“United will miss his goals, but above that, his experience and the effect he would have had on the Ajax youngsters were given his superstar status,” he said.
“No matter what anyone thinks or says, Pogba will want to win and be an integral part of the game. He’ll want to shut up those who are doubting [his ability]. And regardless of when [Rooney] leaves, leaving with a trophy would be a sweet send-off.”
Rio claims Ibrahimovic will understand how to break Ajax down after captaining the side and although he’ll still be travelling with the squad, as Mourinho confirmed, he’ll only be a spectator.
It’s a shame because he would have been able to make a difference but the main focus for Zlatan is his rehabilitation.
