Ander Herrera reacts to Antoine Griezmann’s Manchester United transfer

Ander Herrera has reacted to the prospect of seeing Antoine Griezmann arrive at Manchester United over the summer.

The Frenchman, who is reportedly prepared to leave Atletico Madrid this summer, recently noted that there was a “6/10” chance of him joining Man United.

Paul Pogba further fuelled speculation surrounding the 25-year-old’s future with a video showing the Frenchman pulling out Griezmann’s trademark celebration before noting cheekily: “next season”.

And Herrera, when questioned about the prospect of playing with the striker next year, was quick to recognise that he was indeed a “brilliant player.”

“Griezmann is a brilliant player, a phenomenon,” said Herrera.

“He is a star and all the teams in the world would want him. However, Griezmann is still an Atletico Madrid player and I respect Atletico and their fans.

“I’ve said it in the past, after Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi, he is in that group of those that can become their possible successors.”

You always felt that winning the Europa League would change the entire mood encircling the club. For months the general prognosis surrounding United under Mourinho revolved around a good season being possible only if they went on to win the Europa League; the tone, however, always contained negative overtones. And it was fitting that, somewhat concurrently, Griezmann was adamantly against a move to Old Trafford, it seemed.

But now, not even 24 hours since United secured a place in the Champions League group stages, the move appears to be on after all. The perfect player, you sense, to refine United’s potency in front of goal – something that simply cannot be ignored over the summer.
