Jaun Mata reacts to Antoine Griezmann’s Manchester United transfer

Juan Mata has reacted to the prospect of Antoine Griezmann moving to Manchester United over the summer, noting that the 25-year-old has plenty of quality.

The Frenchman, when asked about the odds of a move to Old Trafford this summer, noted that there was a “6/10” chance of joining Jose Mourinho’s men this summer.

Paul Pogba, during a Instagram live video, further fanned the flames by pulling out Griezmann’s trademark celebration before notably alluding to “next season”.

And Mata, when asked about Greizmann, noted that he would be more than happy with seeing the striker arrive at Old Trafford over the summer.

“When I was at school a six out of 10 was considered okay. I would take that. Griezmann is a great player and I like great players,” he said.

“He has quality, he gets goals. I don’t know him but he seems like a good person. Of course I like him.”

For months, any question posed to Griezmann about Man United was instantly batted away, almost with a sense of frustration. The overarching message, something conveyed in countless articles on this site, was that the Frenchman was happy at the Vicente Calderon.

But with United now guaranteed a spot in the Champions League group stages and Atletico Madrid seemingly nearing the end of the Diego Simeone era, the tables have all of a sudden turned.

6/10 is, I think, a deliberately ambiguous prognosis: I mean, as Mata notes, 6/10 isn’t bad, and yet at the same time it’s only just above a 50/50 chance. But you sense those odds have promptly risen following Wednesday’s triumph over Ajax – a win that has guaranteed United’s place amongst Europe’s elite next season.
