Manchester United fans enthusiastic over interest in AS Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy

Manchester United fans have expressed their enthusiasm over the prospect of signing AS Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy this summer.

Mohamed Bouhafsi, the same source that first confirmed Anthony Martial‘s move to Old Trafford in 2015, revealed that both Manchester clubs were willing to pay €45m for the left-back over the summer.

Jose Mourinho has reportedly placed emphasis on securing a first choice left-back during the transfer window following a substandard campaign from Luke Shaw.

And supporters have welcomed the prospect of seeing Mendy, an instrumental aspect of Monaco’s Ligue 1 success this season, arrive at Old Trafford over the summer.

The 22-year-old has been a central target for some time. It was reported back in early April that Mourinho had pin-pointed the defender as a potential option; he was even on the Portuguese’s list of ‘supplementary signings’ last summer.

This is a player Mourinho clearly knows well, then, and anybody who has watched him this season can only react positively to any advances made over the summer. Monaco rampaged to the title through virtue of controlled attacking aggression and Mendy, with a total of 39 appearances, was very much at the heart of that and will, you sense, only continue to improve.
