Ian Wright: Wayne Rooney is being forced out at Manchester United

Ian Wright believes Wayne Rooney will leave Manchester United in the summer transfer window after being forced out of the club.

The Englishman has lost his automatic starter status for club and country this campaign and has struggled to make much of his time on the pitch under Jose Mourinho.

He became England and Manchester United’s all-time leading goal-scorer, but after being used as a late substitute in Man United’s 2-0 win against Ajax in the Europa League final, it could be a high note to leave his Old Trafford career on.

Speaking about the situation, Wright felt sad that Rooney was leaving the club out of the back door.

“It feels like it [Rooney will leave]. It is a shame,” Wright said.

“The way he came onto the scene… he is going out of the backdoor. It feels really strange for somebody who has achieved so much. It feels quite sad.”

He’s been linked with a possible return to Everton and a big-money move to China, which could see United earning a substantial fee for the Man United legend.

It’s a shame that it’s come down to this but he hasn’t been performing to the best of his abilities in recent years and has addressed his future at the club, stating a decision has already been made and will be announced soon as he currently has plenty of offers on the table.
