Sergio Ramos: This is what I think about David de Gea’s potential Real Madrid transfer

by Leo Nieboer

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has given his thoughts on David de Gea‘s potential move to the Bernabeu over the summer, noting that he is open to any new additions whilst claiming that current first choice option Keylor Navas is the best in the world.

It was recently reported that Madrid, who failed to secure the Spaniard’s signature back in August 2015, had offered Jose Mourinho £60m for De Gea.

The Portuguese, who turned down the move, is confident of keeping the 26-year-old at Old Trafford after securing Champions League football for next season.

And Ramos, when asked about De Gea, was keen to leap to the defence of current keeper Navas, who has come under scrutiny at times over the last few months.

“Keylor is a front-runner and we have the titles that we have achieved, he has overcome the pressure very well,” he said.

“We are open to any player, but for me Keylor is one of the best in the world.”

Ramos has done what every captain would do by standing up for Navas, but the very fact that Zinedine Zidane has reignited interest in De Gea this summer, following a season hallmarked by the occasional blunder from the Costa Rican. suggests that the manager doesn’t share his captain’s sentiments about Madrid’s current goalkeeping situation.

The De Gea saga, you sense, will drag on in similar fashion to what we all endured two years ago. Madrid will look to break the bank for the Spaniard, but Ed Woodward and Co, as Florentino Perez knows all too well, can be tough nuts to crack.
