Manchester United are close to reaching an agreement with Inter Milan for Ivan Perisic worth around €52m (£45.3m), according to reports.
La Gazzetta dello Sport claims the original proposal had been in the region of €45m, but the Nerazzurri wanted at least €50m for his services.
Jose Mourinho has allegedly stepped up interest in the Croatia international after Antoine Griezmann announced he was staying with Atletico Madrid this summer after understanding Diego Simeone would not be able to replace him with the transfer ban in place.
The report says Perisic’s deal with United will see him almost double his salary, agreeing on an £85,000-a-week contract.
It’s set to be completed next week as Inter’s owners look to balance the books and end Fifa’s Financial Fair-Play restrictions against them.
Perisic has enjoyed an impressive season for Inter, scoring 11 goals and providing 12 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.
Although there are doubts the 28-year-old will perform in the Premier League, especially when compared to another potential target like Romelu Lukaku, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has proven age is just a number as he took England by storm following his arrival last summer on a free transfer.
