Antoine Griezmann to sign new contract at Atletico Madrid after snubbing Manchester United – report

Antoine Griezmann will accept a new deal at Atletico Madrid after ruling out the possibility of a move to Manchester United, according to reports.

Various reports over the last fortnight have suggested that Griezmann, supposedly open to a move away from the Vicente Calderon, was in line to complete a deal with Man United before the end of June.

However, following Atletico’s unsuccessful appeal against their transfer ban, combined with Mourinho’s sudden emphasis on securing an all-out striker, Griezmann took to social media to make his loyalty to Diego Simeone clear.

And according to AS Spain‘s Javier Matallanas, the Frenchman will sign a contract with Atletico that was offered to him a few weeks ago amid uncertainty surrounding his future.

After what feels like eons, the Griezmann saga has finally reached its conclusion. The chances of the 25-year-old arriving at Old Trafford went from being within touching distance to lacking any substance whatsoever, and then back to touching distance, with incredible alacrity.

There is no doubt that he thought long and hard about a potential move to England, but one can hardly blame him for committing his future to Atletico after it was ruled they couldn’t sign players until January 2018.
