Bookmakers have slashed the odds on Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic joining Manchester United before the end of August.
La Gazzetta dello Sport have claimed that Jose Mourinho had launched a bid worth around €52m (£45.3m) for the Croatian winger.
Perisic, who would prefer joining Man United over Chelsea, followed up an impressive Euro 2016 by managing 11 goals and 10 assists over the 2016/17 season for Inter.
And Betfair, in response, have cut the odds on United completing a deal for Perisic from 4/7 to 1/4.
Inter have made it clear that they will not consider any offer below £45m when it comes to Perisic, and it seems as if Mourinho, after initially tabling a £35m offer, has ramped up efforts to secure the Croat’s signature.
This would be a transfer that benefits both parties involved. Inter, after all, need to balance the books and end FIFA’s Financial Fair Play restrictions against them if they are to reemerge as a force in the transfer market.
United, on the other hand, desperately require a more traditional, industrious influence out wide – somebody capable of reaching the byline and supplying pinpoint crosses – to serve as an alternative to the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial next season.
