Former Barcelona and Portugal midfielder Deco has confirmed that Juventus will join Manchester United in the hunt for AS Monaco’s Fabinho this summer.
Reports have suggested that Jose Mourinho was closing in on a €45m deal for the Brazilian, who came close to moving to Old Trafford last summer.
Fabinho, who has expressed a desire to join Man United in the past, made 50 appearances under Leonardo Jardim as Monaco cruised to the Ligue 1 title, claiming an impressive total of 11 goals.
But Deco, now working for agent Jorges Mendes, who represents Fabinho, has noted that Juventus have also expressed keen interest the 23-year-old.
“I know that Juventus want Fabinho, so we’ll see what happens after the Champions League final,” he said.
“Clearly he likes the Bianconeri, as Juventus are a big club.”
The prospect of signing either Antoine Griezmann and Bernardo Silva – two players that would have had a considerable impact on United’s attacking potency – has vanished over the past two weeks, and Mourinho will not want to lose out on another potentially valuable asset.
Fabinho is indeed a right back by trade, but his quick feet and superb vision also means he can feature as an energetic defensive midfielder. Both positions look completely natural to him, and bringing in such versatility and exuberance will, you sense, serve Mourinho very well.
