Marseille and Lyon interested in signing Manchester United outcast Adnan Januzaj – report

Marseille and Lyon have expressed an interest in signing Manchester United outcast Adnan Januzaj over the summer, according to reports.

Januzaj, following an unsuccessful loan spell at Sunderland that saw him manage just one goal, will be informed by Jose Mourinho that he no longer has a place at the club next week.

The Belgian made a rip-roaring start to his senior Man United career back in October 2013 with a brace against Sunderland but has only managed three goals for the club since then.

And according to The Times‘ Paul Hirst, Marseille and Lyon are prepared to hand the 22-year-old a fresh start this summer.

There was a time when Januzaj and Cristiano Ronaldo were mentioned in the same breath. Supporters even created a chant for him. Perhaps the presence of David Moyes in the dugout rapidly brought down the standards usually set by supporters, but nobody can doubt that, for a few months, it felt as if the 22-year-old would be the real deal.

But that was almost four years ago: the hallmark of any young talent isn’t necessarily how they break into the team, but rather how they sustain that level of performance and acclimatise to the vicissitudes of life at the top.

And Januzaj, quite emphatically, has fallen short at this vital hurdle.
