Victor Lindelof adresses a potential transfer to Manchester United

Victor Lindelof has addressed rumours linking him with a potential move to Manchester United, once again insisting he was happy at Benfica.

Reports have claimed that a deal worth €40m for the youngster to join Man United will be finalised soon after Sweden take on France this week.

Lindelof, however, has previously insisted that his attention was firmly on honouring his contract and delivering for the Portuguese champions next season.

And the 22-year-old has once again made it clear that he wasn’t prepared to discuss any rumours linking him what a move to Old Trafford.

“I haven’t read them,” he said. “They write something almost all the time, so it’s nothing new,” he said.

“They [the papers] can write whatever they want to. I’ve a contract with Benfica & I’m happy there. That’s what I’ll always say.”

Anybody who has been through at least one transfer window will tell you that the outright rejection seen from Lindelof here does not, funnily enough, then always translate into the deal not materialising.

The summer transfer period is an unpredictable, windy terrain, and the noise surrounding Lindelof at this given time – accentuated most recently by reports of club president Luis Filipe Vieira flying to Manchester to discuss a deal for the defender – suggests that this is a story worth following.
