Manchester United are on the verge of signing AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho, according to reports.

The side were in advanced talks with him earlier in the month, however, a deal is set to go through because he was keen on joining Atletico Madrid but was let down after the Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS) upheld the Spanish capital club’s appeal against the transfer ban.

A potential deal is expected to cost Man United around £50million although the Old Trafford club are not to the only club in the race for his signature as Pep Guardiola is also said to be interested.

His contract at Stade Louis II runs down in 2021 and United are said to be leading the race for his services.

He’s an incredibly versatile player which is the main reason why Mourinho is so interested in bringing him to Old Trafford, with his ability to play as a right-back as well as a defensive midfielder.

The player joined Monaco on a season-long loan from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013 and extended his loan deal for one more season before making the permanent switch in 2015.

During his time at the Spanish club, Mourinho gave him his opportunity to make his first team debut against Malaga in the 2012/13 season, and it seems they could be reunited once again.
