Gianluca Di Marzio has confirmed that Paris Saint-Germain are monitoring the situation of Manchester United target and Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic.
Recent reports have confirmed that the Croat, who claimed 11 goals and 10 assists from out wide last season, had agreed personal terms with Man United after it was revealed that new manager Luciano Spalletti would not obstruct a move to Old Trafford.
Negotiations over the exact fee for Perisic are ongoing, however, with Inter insistent on seeing Jose Mourinho table an offer of around £50m for the 29-year-old’s services.
And according to Di Marzio, PSG are monitoring the situation closely and may step in with a bid of their own if United and Inter fail to reach an agreement over a transfer fee.
The former Serie A giants are playing hardball over Perisic’s fee primarily because they know that stopping the move is impossible, and that the only thing they can do now is essentially optimise the compensation they receive from losing perhaps their best player.
Mourinho has already raised his bid for the Croat in response to Inter’s demands from €35m to €40m and you sense that the Italian side, inundated by FIFA Financial Fair Play sanctions, could not refuse anything higher.
