Chris Smalling has joined up with OmniSports agency amid rumours of a potential move away from Manchester United this summer.
And Smalling, seemingly in response, has turned to OmniSports agency – whose clients include Middlesbrough manager Garry Monk – to help find him a new club.
United supporters, at the height of their woes, have often called for ruthless change – a “complete overhaul”, as many often demand. And seeing Smalling move along suggests that Mourinho is wasting no time when it comes to raising the bar and moving forward in his direction.
The 27-year-old remains an important member of this squad and supporters shouldn’t forget the watertight display he produced against Ajax last month, but Mourinho simply cannot accommodate players only capable of impressing sporadically. He is, in many ways, a relic from a murky three years of David Moyes and Louis van Gaal, and Mourinho has fresh ideas that simply cannot accommodate the defender.
