Alvaro Morata transfer to Manchester United set to be delayed until next week – report

Alvaro Morata’s move to Manchester United is set to be delayed until next week as Real Madrid insist on a fee of £78m before they can part ways with the Spaniard, according to reports.

The 24-year-old’s agent Juanma Lopez arrived at the Bernabeu on Wednesday to finalise the deal after Jose Mourinho submitted a £60m bid for the striker.

Both Sky Sports and the BBC have claimed that Man United were edging closer to completing the deal and it was thought that the move could be completed by the end of the week.

However, according to the Independent‘s Miguel Delaney, although a vast majority of the details of a “hugely attractive package” have been agreed, the La Liga champions are holding out for a sum of £78m which could see the transfer rumble on until next week.

Zinedine Zidane has made it clear that he doesn’t want to see Morata move anywhere but has conceded that no guarantees can be made over Morata receiving greater amounts of game time next season ahead of the World Cup – the main priority for the Spaniard at this given time.

And so they will, like any major footballing juggernaut with a jewell to sell, rinse United as much as possible – supporters, wary of their side’s need for a striker, will just hope that Ed Woodward and Co persist with the move even if the fee is somewhat exorbitant.
