Manchester United launch €70m bid for Paris Saint Germain’s Marquinhos – report

Manchester United have launched a bid worth an estimated €70m for Paris Saint Germain defender Marquinhos, according to reports from Brazil.

The 23-year-old, now with 155 appearances for the French side, has been subject to interest from Man United for a number of years.

Barcelona are also among those interest in capturing the Brazilian – who has previously hinted towards a move away from the Parc de Princes – this summer.

Marquinhos is another one of those players always associated with a move to Old Trafford, kind of like when your dad makes the same terrible Christmas joke at the dinner table every year. You know it’s coming, there is nothing really behind it, and after a while you end up feeling immune.

But with Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof set to line up as United’s back two against West Ham United in August, the 23-year-old may see a pairing – and indeed an entire defensive set-up – that aligns with where he currently finds himself.

I mean, signing Lindelof and Marquinhos in the same window? Seems a bit farfetched, maybe one or the other but both would be a lot of investment from Mourinho in that position.

Surely now is the time for Marquinhos – a watertight, notably modern type of defender, with plenty of fluidity on the ball – to prove his worth outside the comparatively rudimentary French top division.
