Manchester United open talks with Barcelona over full-back Jordi Alba – report

Manchester United have entered talks with Barcelona over the availability of left-back Jordi Alba this summer, according to reports from Spain.

The Spaniard, who arrived at the Nou Camp in 2012, endured a difficult campaign after falling out of favour with Luis Enrique.

Jose Mourinho is after a new left back following a disappointing campaign from Luke Shaw and has reportedly pin-pointed the 28-year-old as his preferred choice.

And according to Spanish outlet Diaro Gol (via Daily Express), United have approached president Josep Bartomeu over Alba’s availability.

The report also states that Barcelona will consider selling Alba – whose release clause is a whopping €150m – at the right price, but the Spaniard is reportedly keen to remain and fight for his place under new manager Ernesto Valverde.

However, if this is not possible, Alba would surely consider a guaranteed place at a Champions League club set to spend big over the summer. And with Luke Shaw lying uneasily on the fringes, Marcos Rojo out until the new year and Matteo Darmian – United’s most stable left back last season – seemingly open to a move to Juventus, there is plenty of reason for the sprightly full-back to seek a new chapter in his career.
