Manchester United target Marquinhos signs new PSG contract until 2022

Manchester United target Marquinhos has officially signed a new contract with PSG until 2022, the French club have announced.

Man United have long been linked with a move for the Brazilian defender ever since he admitted he was frustrated at a lack of game time in the French capital but Marquinhos has now put pen to paper on a long-term contract to end any speculation.

From a defensive point of view, that’s the only area Jose Mourinho has been able to strengthen so far this summer thanks to the arrival of Victor Lindelof from SL Benfica. He will likely start alongside Eric Bailly to give United their best centre-back partnership since the departure of Nemanja Matic and Rio Ferdinand a few years ago.

For Marquinhos, he’ll be hoping for more game time at PSG but he must have been confident of getting that otherwise he wouldn’t have signed a new deal.

I always thought there was a chance United could sign two centre-backs this summer and that Chris Smalling would be going in the other direction to offset that cost and reduce the squad size in that area but as of yet there’s not been an indication it will happen.

With a new defensive midfielder and striker the two main priorities for Mourinho in the transfer market, that’s what United have to resolve first and foremost. Once that’s out of the way, maybe we could see another centre-back join but it certainly won’t be Marquinhos from PSG.
