From Italy: Manchester United considering bid for Lazio midfielder Lucas Biglia

Manchester United are considering a bid for Lazio and Argentina midfielder Lucas Biglia after losing out on AS Monaco’s Fabinho, according to reports.

Jose Mourinho is keen on making a second midfield acquisition after Nemanja Matic and had set his eyes on Fabinho, but the Brazilian is now more likely to join Paris Saint Germain.

The Portuguese, in turn, has diverted is attention elsewhere, reportedly expressing interest in Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

And according to Italian outlet Gazetta Dello Sport, Mourinho has also turned his attention to long time Liverpool target Biglia.

The Argentine has been a regular feature for his national side since 2011 and, to sum up in short, can be regarded as a safe pair of hands.

Biglia usually finds himself deployed as a deep lying midfielder, charged with maintaining momentum and sensibly recycling the ball in Michael Carrick fashion, but displayed during his time with Anderlecht – where he claimed four league titles – a capacity for roaming forward and executing pin-point passes on the counter-attack.

A four year spell in Italy has engendered some vital nous to his game; the 31-year-old is not the bulkiest of players but has surplus amounts of tenacity. One short-coming, however, is an occasional lack of mobility, and whether he could remain composed in the notably faster Premier League remains to be seen.
