From Italy: Manchester United set to bid £61m for Roma’s Radja Nainggolan

Manchester United are preparing a mammoth £61m bid to lure Roma and Belgium midfielder Radja Nainggolan to Old Trafford this summer, according to reports from Italy.

Reports have suggested that Jose Mourinho had offered the 29-year-old, who claimed 15 goals from midfield last season, a lucrative package that would see him earn £6.6m per year after tax.

Nainggolan, when asked about his future, made it clear that he would make a decision over his next club when he returned from holiday.

And according to TuttoMercatoWeb, Man United will attempt to prize the highly rated midfielder away from Rome with a lofty £61m bid.

The report also states that Roma have placed a £70m price tag on the Belgian – a figure that Inter Milan, now backed by wealthy Chinese investors, have baulked at.

Roma have set their price for Nainggolan, and United’s offer – whilst below the valuation – will push the ball back into their court. Surely they would have to consider such a lofty sum for a player who, at 29, can only have three or four years left at his peak.

Mourinho clearly sees something in the Belgian: bullish, indefatigable and, most crucially, capable of grabbing goals from midfield – something he desperately lacked last term.
