Jose Mourinho is keen to keep the Italian at Old Trafford even though both sides have previously shown an interest in signing him.
He’s played in both full-back positions last season and although he hasn’t re-found his best form from when he first arrived at the club, his performances did pick back up and he even started the Europa League final against Ajax.
Darmian was initially considered as a backup to Antonio Valencia in the right-back role, however, he made the majority of his 29 appearances at left-back whilst Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo picked up injuries.
He could be allowed to leave the club if he decides he wants to go and if Mourinho receives an acceptable offer, but it seems like he’s in the plans ahead of next season.
United have already signed Victor Lindelof from Benfica and won’t want to try and replace Darmian as his role in the squad helped the side massively throughout the injury crisis.
He will be looking for more regular game time as he looks to be part of Italy’s squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia and his performances have definitely been a step in the right direction.
