Manchester United announce ten academy scholars to join Under 18s next season

by Leo Nieboer

Manchester United have announced ten scholars from the club’s academy that will join the Kieran McKenna’s Under 18 set-up next season.

Paris Saint Germain’s Aliou Traore, Chelsea’s Di’Shon Bernard and and Charlton’s Largie Ramazani have all joined the ranks this month.

McKenna, speaking last week, noted that several Under 18s, including Angel Gomes, would be looking to progress to the Under 23s this year.

And the club has announced that ten players from the academy will ascend to the Under 18s; they include:

Di’Shon Bernard

D’Mani Bughail-Mellor

Jacob Carney

Ethan Galbraith

James Garner

Ethan Laird

Dylan Levitt

Dion McGhee

James Thompson

Brandon Williams

This is not earth shattering news; I’m sure you’d rather read about a new addition to the senior squad being made ahead of pre-season.

But for these players – individuals who have dedicated their lives to making it as a professional – it is everything. The first  and indeed most important step of their careers has been made.

They have broken away from the hopefuls, who will now question their future, and ascended to the platform needed for anybody wanting to fulfil their dreams in this growingly menacing field.

A massive opportunity – maybe not for a place in the United first team, but certainty for a vital footballing education.
