Adnan Januzaj returns to Manchester for training amid speculation of Real Sociedad move

Manchester United outcast Adnan Januzaj will return to Carrington for pre-season this week despite being heavily linked with a move away this summer.

The Belgian was sent out on loan to Sunderland back in August but dramatically failed to make an impression on the Premier League, managing just one goal (against Shrewsbury in the League Cup).

It was reported last month that Jose Mourinho, in turn, had no plans for the 22-year-old at Old Trafford and would let him join Real Sociedad on a permanent basis.

But Januzaj, after visiting the Pyrenees to prepare for the coming months, has been spotted back in Manchester, but it remains uncertain whether he will be on the plane to Los Angeles for Man United’s pre-season tour.

Mourinho made a decision over Januzaj some months ago. Just like Andreas Pereira at Granada, he had a chance to showcase his grit at a side battling for survival, but could not replicate the former in rising above the gloom and maintaining an aggressive tempo, and the Portuguese – perhaps rightly – has seen enough.

Over three years have passed since we saw what Januzaj was truly capable of. You can only keep making excuses and exceptions for so long.
