An announcement confirming Rooney’s return to Everton is expected before Sunday night and it will call an end to Rooney’s 13 year career at United, seeing him go back to the club he started at all those years ago.
BBC’s Simon Stone suggests this deal for Rooney is not part of the Romelu Lukaku transfer but I think we can all safely assume that behind the scenes it very much is part of it.
Rooney’s exit this summer has been widely expected for a long time after Jose Mourinho pushed Rooney to the sidelines and kept him out of his team even when he was fully fit and it’s definitely the right time for Rooney to leave United, both for us and Rooney himself.
Rooney still wants to play regular first-team football and he’ll definitely get that back at Everton. The fans at Goodison Park would love to have him back and now we’re only a matter of hours away from that official announcement being confirmed.
We will bring you more updates on the Rooney situation when we have them but by the time United fly out to Los Angeles to begin our pre-season tour, Rooney will more than likely not be a United player anymore.
