Nemanja Matic training alone at Chelsea amid speculation surrounding Manchester United transfer – report

Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic has been training alone at the club’s training base in Cobham amid speculation surrounding a potential move to Manchester United, according to reports.

Reports last month claimed that the Serb, brought to Stamford Bridge by Jose Mourinho in 2014, had agreed to reunite with his former boss at Man United, with AS Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko set to replace him.

However, United’s capture of Romelu Lukaku, Antonio Conte’s main transfer target, seemingly ruled out the prospect of Chelsea further emboldening Mourinho’s lineup ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

But according to the Telegraph‘s Matt Law and Sam Wallace, Matic has been training in isolation as the first team prepares for their pre-season tour and fellow players believe the 28-year-old’s departure is an inevitability.

The same outlet has also stated that Matic, in spite of Conte’s belligerence, still wants a move to Old Trafford. And he can be rightfully outraged if Chelsea renege on their intention to let him leave just because United beat his manager to a signing. Players do not appreciate being reduced to pawns operating under a larger system in such overt fashion.

Chelsea can, of course, refuse to sell Matic to United because of a reluctance to strengthen a rival, as long as they offer the midfielder with an alternative. Refusing any deal on the pretext of bitterness, however, is simply wrong.
