Manchester United confident they will keep David de Gea this summer

Manchester United are confident in keeping David de Gea at Old Trafford this summer in spite of once again receiving  interest from Real Madrid, according to reports.

Club president Florentino Perez insisted last month that Madrid would not make another approach for the Spaniard after hilariously failing to sign him back in 2015.

However, following Gianluigi Donnarumma’s U-turn over leaving AC Milan this summer, reports have claimed that the La  Liga champions were preparing another mammoth bid for De Gea.

But according to Duncan Castles, Man United believe they will be able to stave off any approach made by Madrid and keep De Gea at Old Trafford this summer.

Will the door ever close on this saga? Perhaps not. Perhaps Guillem Balague, even in fifty years time, will still be on Sky Sports News HQ discussing the latest aspect of this never-ending, growingly mundane narrative.

This is partly down to what De Gea is like as an individual. The 26-year-old, even in the face of worldwide fame, remains a shy, humble figure, dedicated to his work and very much averse to the Spanish media, with whom he has never enjoyed a good relationship.

And with Champions League football on the horizon next season, supporters will hope the Spaniard doesn’t feel inclined to push for a move elsewhere.
