Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has sanctioned the sale of Nemanja Matic to Manchester United.
The Sun reports that Abrahmovich intervened to give the green light for the Serbian midfielder to leave Chelsea and a price of £50m is being placed on the 28-year-old. Yes, I did write £50m there. The Telegraph also report
United had a bid in the region of £35m for Matic rejected by Chelsea which I’d say is more than reasonable for Matic given they paid only £40m for his replacement Tiemoue Bakayoko from AS Monaco.

I know Chelsea always seem to get better prices than most clubs for players they sell but £50m for Matic? Give over. When Fabinho is available for less than that from AS Monaco, it looks like pure madness for Jose Mourinho to move for Matic instead of the Brazilian and that’s what plenty of fans think.
United desperately need a defensive midfielder and after we stole Romelu Lukaku from them, Chelsea were hardly going to strengthen a direct rival without a fight or an inflated price. It looks like both of those are in play with Matic.
I’d rather have Matic than sign no defensive midfielder at all but I’m still a bit hung up on the fact there’s a chance we might pay more for him than a better, younger Fabinho.
