Jose Mourinho has confirmed David de Gea will not be leaving Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
Reports claimed Real Madrid are still interested in a move for the Spaniard after he came close to joining them two years ago when a move collapsed in the final moments of transfer deadline day.
He has since been happy at Old Trafford, signing a new contract and claiming he is looking forward to playing Champions League football with the team Mourinho.
Speaking about his goalkeeper, Mourinho believes he has moved on and is happy at Old Trafford.
“I can guarantee that he’s not going this season, and it is my feeling it will be very difficult for him to go,” he said.
“He is a very honest boy, very straight. He was contacted for a long time. The club was closed, then we opened because I always have this feeling that, when a player has a desire to go, I don’t like to stop them because, in the end, you don’t get what you expect from them.
“So we open it and then we decide to close and I think the feeling from him is very good. So I am happy and 100% he stays with us.”
He was speaking out about a transfer before the clash against Real and after the way the Spanish club acted during negotiations for Alvaro Morata, I’m not surprised a deal won’t go through.
De Gea the best goalkeeper in the world, and signing a replacement in the current market would probably cost just as much as his potential transfer fee, which doesn’t make sense as a new keeper also won’t be as good in between the sticks.
