Jose Mourinho has revealed why Manchester United abandoned their interest in Gareth Bale, claiming he had no desire to leave Real Madrid.
The Portuguese boss confirmed there were talks for the player, however, there was no point wasting any time as he was focused in Spain.
Bale has been continuously linked with an Old Trafford move and reports even claimed that he was the closest he’s ever been to a transfer, although a move seems off the cards now.
Speaking about a transfer, Mourinho compared the situation to a possible move for Cristiano Ronaldo, impossible.
“The same [as Ronaldo],” Mourinho said. “You have contacts and feelings, you understand things, and it was clear that Bale likes Madrid, the challenge and situation.
“They are in a very good situation now and I never felt a desire for him to leave, so why waste time on it? No.”
He would have been a sensational player at United but Mourinho has done well to understand the situation, acknowledge if the player could possibly make a move and change targets without wasting too much time.
The Portuguese boss is only expecting one more player this summer after Real Madrid and Inter Milan made the situation more difficult by trying to hold out for the best possible deals for Alvaro Morata and Ivan Perisic.
