Manchester United set to target Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal – report

Manchester United are set to launch a bid for Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal after the Chilean expressed a desire to leave the Allianz Arena this summer, according to reports.

Louis van Gaal seemingly spent the majority of his first summer in charge attempting to lure the 30-year-old to Old Trafford from Juventus.

The approach was unsuccessful and Vidal ended up at Bayern; he made 41 appearances in all competitions under Carlo Ancelotti last season, scoring nine goals.

And according to the Daily Star, Man United will once again make an approach for the midfielder, who is open to a move away this summer.

There are fewer things I want less than yet another endless stream of Vidal rumours supervening my timeline and indeed general life. But it seems as if United, having given up on Eric Dier and increasingly unlikely to sign Nemanja Matic, are now widening their net as pressure intensifies on Ed Woodward to deliver another signing as soon as possible.

Jose Mourinho recently conceded that he would accept seeing just three new players arrive over the summer, rather than the proposed four, and you suspect that the final addition of the summer would have to be a defensive midfielder capable of acting as a springboard for Paul Pogba.
