Ashley Young expected to stay at Manchester United despite Stoke interest – report

Ashley Young looks set to honour his contract at Manchester United despite attracting interest from Stoke City this summer, according to reports.

The 32-year-old contract expires in June 2018 and has been subject to interest from other clubs following a campaign of sporadic appearances under Jose Mourinho.

He has piqued the interest of Mark Hughes alongside reportedly receiving offers from China and Turkey ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

But according to the Mirror‘s Tom Hopkinson, Mourinho appreciates Young’s role within the squad and will look to keep him close to his chest next season.

There were so many disciplined, perfectly delivered performances from the Englishman last year that completely slipped under the footballing world’s radar of interest. Away trips to Swansea, Liverpool and Saint Etienne are just a few examples.

He may not be the spectacular, bombastic game-changer supporters love to indulge in, but fewer players at the club get what playing for United means better than Young. There is still a distinctly Fergie-era sense of application underlining every one of his performances that, while not aesthetically pleasing, will always be wonderful to watch.

Most importantly, however, Mourinho can trust him to do a job, and with United fighting on four fronts once again next season the winger will without doubt come in handy.
