Jose Mourinho will not look to sign Gareth Bale this summer – report

Jose Mourinho will not seek to sign Gareth Bale this summer despite Real Madrid offering him to other clubs in order to make way for Kylian Mbappe, according to reports.

The Portuguese, speaking ahead of Manchester United’s pre-season win over Madrid, noted that the club would not waste “time and energy” on trying to sign somebody happy at the Bernabeu.

But reports of a £161m deal for Kylian Mbappe being agreed in principle with AS Monaco has led to speculation surrounding renewed interest in Bale as Mourinho seeks to add another winger to his squad this summer.

However, according to the Daily Record‘s Duncan Castles, Mourinho will not opt for the 28-year-old this summer amid concerns he remains committed to life at the Bernabeu.

Another reason for their reluctance to make a bid for Bale revolves around the potentially damaging effects of attempting to match the hyperinflated transfer budgets being set by the likes of Paris Saint Germain and Manchester City, which could crucially jeopardise their chances of securing a defensive midfielder – the more important acquisition – this summer.

The bottom line here, I sense, is that with United already struggling to land a third signing, opening up formal interest in Bale  – and entering negotiations with Florentino Perez – would only slow things down further – something they simply cannot afford to do.
