Manchester United supporters pleaded with Jose Mourinho to sell the Belgian following a string of poor performances in December, but the Portuguese stuck with his player and handed him a renewed contract.
And the midfielder went on to enjoy a promising second half of the season, most notably in 2-0 wins over Chelsea and Ajax in the Europa League final.
According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, Galatasaray are preparing a bid for the 29-year-old as they seek to reassert themselves as domestic champions next season.
Fellaini has never managed to fully endear himself with supporters ever since joining for £27m in 2013, mainly because he is not what you would describe as a ‘Man United player’ in terms of his style.
But the 54-year-old, ever since handing him that new deal, has unquestionably started to mould Fellaini into a reliable ‘Mourinho player’ instead.
He uses him for a specific purpose, usually in games that demand a heightened physical, disruptive influence in midfield against sides that like to play through the middle. And Fellaini, most recently against Real Madrid in pre-season, has been a superb battering ram who could be a huge asset in particular games next season – especially since United have so far failed to land another midfielder this summer.
