Manchester United are close to finally completing the signing of Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
Old Trafford officials are hopeful a deal will be completed for the 28-year-old this week after identifying him as one of the club’s priority targets this summer.
He’s won the Premier League twice and could cost United close to £50million as he’s expected to link up with Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera in the middle of the park.
Matic’s passion to join United was so strong that Chelsea coach Antonio Conte dismissed him from their pre-season tour squad which travelled to China earlier this month.
He wanted to reunite with Jose Mourinho and allegedly verbally agreed personal terms on an Old Trafford transfer at the end of last season.
A move has dragged on after United signed Romelu Lukaku from Everton as Chelsea were close to completing a deal, and his fee was slightly larger as a result, as he’s entered the last two years of his Stamford Bridge contract.
Mourinho wanted to sign Matic a year ago but Conte blocked a switch, but it seems like he’s finally in line to land his main man.
