Manchester United are poised to complete the purchase of Nemanja Matic from Chelsea, according to the Guardian.
The side increased their efforts of signing Matic after failing in their efforts to purchase Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
It’s a massive boost in Mourinho’s plans as he was disappointed with the lack of progress with Victor Lindelof and Romelu Luakku as the only new arrivals, however, it seems that could be about to change.
Even though Juventus are also keen on Matic, he has preferred a move to Old Trafford to link up again with Mourinho as talks between both parties continue.
Chelsea had set their sights on receiving £50m but it’s not clear yet what the fee will be, especially as they were hoping to drive a hard bargain after United clinched the signing of Lukaku from under their nose.
Although there were initially doubts Chelsea would let Matic move to a direct rival, Roman Abramovich allowed him to leave as a gesture of good faith for his services at the club, as we’ve seen previously with Petr Cech.
There are plenty of reports linking Matic with a move to United and a transfer should be completed soon as both clubs look to wrap up business ahead of an important season in the Premier League.
