Manchester United confident Juan Mata and Ander Herrera will sign new deals this summer – report

Manchester United are confident of securing new deals for Juan Mata and Ander Herrera this summer, according to reports.

The latter has been subject to interest from Barcelona over the transfer window but has reportedly entered talks with Man United over securing an improved deal after being handed the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award back in May.

Mata, on the other hand, defied initial expectations to enjoy a fruitful season under Jose Mourinho – albeit punctuated by a month on the sidelines through injury – and claimed ten goals.

And according to EPSN’s Rob Dawson, Man United are in the process of handing the pair contracts after developing further at Old Trafford under the tutelage of Mourinho.

Marouane Fellaini and Antonio Valencia have been likewise rewarded with new contracts for their efforts last season and nobody can doubt that the Spanish duo deserve the same.

We forget as supporters that, in reality, footballers don’t care too much about what fans think of them; they place more emphasis instead, quite naturally, on what their bosses think – their manager, the extended staff and those in the boardroom – and receiving a new deal is indeed the clearest form of knowing that they are moving in the right direction.
