Manchester United have made an enquiry about the availability of Anderlecht midfielder Leander Dendoncker, according to reports.

The 22-year-old caught the eye against Jose Mourinho’s side in the Europa League quarter-finals last season, scoring a late equaliser in the first-leg in Brussels.

The Portuguese boss made a point of seeking out the Belgium at the final whistle of the return leg at Old Trafford a week later.

Having scouted him, United have also made an enquiry earlier this summer and touched base with his representatives ahead of a potential summer.

Anderlecht value the 6ft 2in powerhouse at around £22m and £31m, and after securing the services of Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic, he could bring in another player, with a deal for Ivan Perisic looking to be concluded soon.

Dendoncker has been at Anderlecht at the age of 14 and has been a vital member of the squad, playing every minute of Anderlecht’s title-winning campaign and Europa League run last season.

He has regularly topped Anderlecht’s charts for distance covered last season, even reaching a personal best of 13km at one point.

It’s clear he’s a massive talent and there’s no denying why Mourinho has caught his eye.
