The 21-year-old offers the Portuguese boss new options, capable of playing on either wing, or as a No.10, especially with Wayne Rooney being offloaded to Everton this summer.

Pereira’s birthday also offers Mourinho an advantage in Premier and Champions League squad regulations, as he at the exact cut-off date to qualify as an Under-21 player, meaning he can be included in both squads for free.

United will be able to register Pereira as home-grown and club-trained for next season as he was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson from PSV Eindhoven in 2012.

The side only have Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Juan Mata, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford in his area, with Pereira also possessing the ability to play in front of the back four.

He was also included in the last game of the pre-season against Sampdoria and has clearly impressed Mourinho since his season-long La Liga move last season, proving his ability to slot back into the team at Old Trafford.
