From Italy: Bayern Munich and Barcelona targeting move for Matteo Darmian this summer

by Leo Nieboer

Bayern Munich and Barcelona have expressed an interest in signing Matteo Darmian this summer, according to reports from Italy.

Manchester United have fended off interest from both Juventus and Inter Milan for the Italian already this summer, with Jose Mourinho keen to keep him following a series of impressive displays at left back towards the back-end of last season.

Darmian himself, when asked about a potential move away, noted that he was happy at Old Trafford and focused on preparing for the new season ahead.

But according to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, Barcelona and Bayern will make attempts to sign the 27-year-old before the window shuts at the end of the month.

Interest in Darmian stems from the potential arrival of Serge Aurier from Paris Saint Germain, which could price the full-back out of a place at right back place next season.

But this doesn’t matter to Mourinho. The Portuguese has used Darmian at left back to storming effect, especially in the Europa League final, and will want to see him and Luke Shaw share the slot next summer whilst seeing Valencia and Aurier occupy the other.

Either way, Darmian has muscled his way back into a regular spot at Old Trafford and clearly has no intentions to give that up any time soon.
