Jose Mourinho holds meetings with Barcelona’s Arda Turan over potential transfer – report

Jose Mourinho has held meetings with Barcelona’s Arda Turan over a potential move to Old Trafford worth £24m this summer, according to reports from Turkey.

The Turkish attacking midfielder, capable of playing both at No.10 and out wide, became a pillar of Diego Simeone’s indomitable La Liga winning Atletico Madrid side after joining in 2011.

He went on to join Barcelona in 2015 and, despite averaging just over a goal every two games last season, has failed to win over supporters.

And according to AS‘ Özgür Sancar, Mourinho has met with the Turkish midfielder “on many occasions” and admires the player.

Turan, wearing the No.7 shirt, has always looked slightly incongruous at Barcelona, unable to offer the silky, fluid style moving forward demanded by supporters.

Nevertheless, you can see why Mourinho admires him nonetheless. He may not serve as a traditional, get-to-the-bloody-byline type of wide-man, but the 30-year-old is a hardened, disciplined asset capable of carrying the ball, linking up with teammates and carrying out his manager’s demands.

Above anything, however, Turan is an imposing presence on the pitch: he may only stand at 5ft 9 but possesses an unquestionable veneer of nastiness and tenacity – something Mourinho lacked with his attacking midfielders last season.
