Jose Mourinho has explained why Manchester United must raise the bar this season, claiming they must always look to improve their game.
The side are favourites to win the Premier League as the Portuguese boss has signed some big names in Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof during the summer transfer window.
Man United are also hoping to challenge in the Champions League after winning the Europa League final and it’ll be a big ask to get the players challenging on different fronts again, as they did last campaign.
Speaking about team, Mourinho claims United are always looking to up their game.
“When I won two consecutive titles with Chelsea, the United manager [Sir Alex] said we brought the bar to a certain level,” Jose said.
“And that they had to improve a lot to try to win the trophy back. I think this happens every season. Somebody wins and the others are not happy. They don’t accept it with their hands in their pockets and the others improve to try to be better.”
Man United have not won the trophy since the 2012/2013 season and have finished seventh, fourth, fifth and sixth since then, hoping to improve their game this campaign.
The team will be looking to improve their record this campaign, especially as Mourinho was forced into giving up on the Premier League last season to pursue the Europa League in hopes of a Champions League qualification.
