Manchester United have received a massive boost in the race to sign Thomas Lemar as Arsene Wenger has confirmed they have pulled out.
Jose Mourinho has been heavily linked with a move for Lemar and it seems a move could be met as the Portuguese boss hopes to complete his fourth signing at Old Trafford.
Reports claim Monaco had reconsidered their stance on letting the Frenchman go but with Kylian Mbappe and Fabinho also close to leaving, there’s a slim chance he’ll actually be allowed to leave.
“It’s dead because Monaco has closed the door,” Wenger said.
“They are still on cases like Mbappe and Fabinho. They’ve already lost Mendy, Bernardo Silva and Bakayoko, so Monaco is at a stage where they have closed the door.”
If United really did want him now would be the time to go in for him, but if Wenger is correct and Monaco really are keeping hold of Lemar, then it’ll be tough to get hold of his services.
The 21-year-old is keen on a move to the Premier League but with Tiemoue Bakayoko, Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy already leaving this summer, there are doubts he’ll be allowed to join the list.
