International round-up: Nemanja Matic impresses, David de Gea claims clean sheet

Eric Bailly

Another routine outing for the 23-year-old. He hasn’t looked troubled at the back once this season and produced a calm, assured display as the Ivory Coast strolled to a 3-0 win over Gabon.

Nemanja Matic

The Serbian once again ran the show at the base of midfield, this time against a hapless Moldova side. Orchestrated the tempo of the game throughout and played a crucial role in setting up Serbia’s second goal in a 3-0 win, breaking through the lines with precision. Taken off after 77 minutes.

Matteo Darmian

This was, not for the first time this season, an evening that saw Darmian, along with his entire back four, fall victim to a masterclass from Isco. He is possibly the most in-form player in the world at this given time and the Bernabeu purred at what was a truly magical display at No.10.

The defender enjoyed a strong first half, timing his challenges well and firing over a superb cross for Andrea Belotti, but had his work cut out in the second half as Spain entered cruise mode.

David de Gea

Produced a superb instinctive stop from Belotti’s header in the first half to keep Spain in control and made a series of smart saves to deny Lorenzo Insigne and Manolo Gabbiadini late on. Never really looked troubled.
