Eric Dier remains nonchalant about his future following a summer of intense speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United.
Dier was reportedly one of Jose Mourinho’s primary midfield targets this summer but a move never materialised with the Portuguese manager instead choosing to sign former player Nemanja Matic from Chelsea, a decision which has so far proved to be the right one with Matic playing so well.
Despite all the speculation, Dier is choosing to stay focused on his own game and concentrate on his Spurs career.
“I think it’s best if footballers worry about playing football,” Dier said.
“I take the philosophy that if I worry about the football everything else will take care of itself.”
For me, I think Dier is a good footballer in his own right but wouldn’t have been enough to solve United’s midfield problems on his own. He’s limited and does what he does well but Matic is a far more all-rounded player, hence why I feel he suited us more.
Plus, Dier would have cost probably substantially more than Matic given that Daniel Levy is his chairman, so in that sense United got the better deal in this situation too.
Watch us get linked with Dier once again in the summer and the speculation to once again be intense, especially if the wheels come off at Spurs this year under Mauricio Pochettino.
