Manchester United fans disappointed with Eric Bailly’s performance against Stoke City

Manchester United fans were far from impressed with Eric Bailly’s performance during their side’s 2-2 draw with Stoke City on Saturday.

The Ivorian has been indomitable so far this season but lacked positional sense as Mark Hughes’ men punished the visitors in the air.

His failure to push up in time and get on the right side of Jean-Eric Choupo-Moting allowed the Cameroon international to give Stoke the lead just before half time.

And supporters were decidedly critical of the 23-year-old’s lack of assurance at the back alongside Phil Jones.

Make no mistake, had Bailly offered the same over-sweeping assurance seen last month, Mourinho’s men would have cruised to victory. A lack of discipline and awareness let Stoke score a completely undeserved opener and from that point onwards their tails were up.

Stoke presented a ferocious physical challenge all afternoon, pressing with intent and harassing United’s back four whenever they could, and Bailly, while matching them in terms of muscle, simply didn’t have the composure to give Mourinho’s men the platform they needed to put the game to bed.

Supporters will know that their first choice centre back, along with Jones, needs to provide more assurance than that if United are to mount a title challenge this season.
